Sweet Danger by Margery Allingham***
Reading dates: 13 – 31 December 2024
More than a crime novel, Sweet Danger is a treasure hunt where a riddle needs to be solved too. It is a charming story, with a touch of the supernatural, but the premise is a little confusing and the Albert Campion character, like his expression, flat. Thank god for the lovely, spirited Amanda Fitton, who saves the narrative. More could have been done with the setting, I think. Still, I preferred her novels to those of Agatha Christie, at least marginally, even through Christie is more inventive (but also more ubiquitous).
