Candice Lin ‘The Animal Husband’ at the Talbot Rice in Edinburgh certainly had atmosphere and some interesting things to show about the human body in science, intimacy and consent. Slippery, the body wins at mystery.
Dearest @oritutu , you leave my heart bleeding. But nothing is ever what it seems (as you showed me) and you also leave a trail of pure gratitude. The universe made me your doctoral supervisor because I needed you as my teacher. When I met you and told Neil Scott what your project was about, he said ‘you hit jackpot’. Lacan, the dead, theatre and altered states of consciousness. Jackpot. And even more, I got you, the most wonderful, elegant doctoral candidate that ever was. You could make theatre out of thin air. Good, engaging theatre that reimagined the tales that have always been around us. You could see the potential in glitches, in trances, in all the things people dismissed. You made them sing.I am very proud of our collaborations (your head, my heart), very proud to have known you and very grateful for all you have given me. Especially the last visit, only last year. You moved me to tears when you spoke about Eli and when you got to deliver the award to your name, just a few days ago. It was so so beautiful. You chose to die in public, sharing what it was like, generous as ever. Your writings of this time have meant more to me that you will never know. They are a reminder that we are all dying too, with you, and this is a truth. You were always so close to the truth. You were always so clear. I ended up really loving the game of pictures we played in the end, and I discovered so much in the exquisite corpses posted by all our community. I admired it and when the time comes, I think I am going to do the same. When I cross over to the other side, I hope it is you who shows me around. I hope we share extra spicy noodles as you showed me to order in Chicago and New York, and we had again in Glasgow. Our favourites. How I will miss you.
