Occasionally, I need to read books in my mother tongue, mainly for my brain to change language, to see where I am with it. After the controversy surrounding the revelation of the identity behind Carmen Mola (three male Spanish writers, Jorge Díaz, Agustín Martínez, and Antonio Mercero) and the fact that one of their crime books won the 2021 Premio Planeta prize of €1,000,000 (the highest in the world), I put it on my list
La Novia Gitana is the first book in the Elena Blanco series and I thought I would start there. It is a very enjoyable thriller, fast paced, even more so for me as I read doubly fast in Spanish. I gobbled it. Yet, I also did not find it special or groundbreaking. the characters are good, but a little bit by numbers: back story of tragedy, an addiction to alcohol, the quick of singing Mina songs on karaoke … Reminded me a lot of Harry Hole. I will probably read the whole series though, even of the three male writers behind a female pseudonym did its me a little bit. I wondered how they write in a trio …

Nadie mata a una novia, quizá a dos, con una trepanación y unas larvas de gusano «barrenador» sin prepararlo todo. Por lo menos sin haber pensado muy bien cada detalle para no entrar en el primer grupo de sospechosos.
