Confidence by Denise Mina**

I usually love Denise Mina’s novels and I am unsure as to why I found this such hard work. I did not enjoy the plot (so far fetched), the characters (Anna and Fin are anything but believable) or the setting (the places, Rome, Paris … were not vivid). I felt the story was also not fully resolved, the end rushed, the motives unexplored. It could have been so much better with a little more care.

Perhaps my Reacher reading project has given me an overdose of crime fiction but I feel more drawn to literary works than escapism, even in the evenings. The two are not mutually exclusive, though, but also not easy to come by. Confidence was meant to be escapism, but it ended up being mostly eye rolls.

Faith is a willingness to sustain a belief while entertaining doubt.

We shambled in like a circus act who had won a voucher.
