As a series, Dr Ruth Galloway’s mysteries have potential. I like the main character a lot and Elly Griffiths’s dramatic sense was good too. The archaeology background is fabulous and reminds me of the TV series Bones, which I love so much. I also liked the landscape connection to Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens. I have never been to a marsh, I don’t think, but the quicksand mentions reminded me of being taught to escape it in a foot crossing I did from Granville to Mont St Michel. But the story itself did not have anything spectacular going for it, apart from the character which is just here in potential form. I will give her a chance though, The Crossing Places is definitely good enough for that.
